JIMMY DRIFTWOOD // 01 LITTLE OLE MODEL A // 02 SAGINAW MICHIGAN // 03 WALKING THE FLOOR OVER YOU // 04 OPEN PIT MINE // 05 KNOXVILLE GIRL |
These five songs were recorded at the Driftwood Tavern on Sandy Boulevard, Portland, Oregon, February 9, 2005. Wednesday nights they had an open mic session and James Pulfrey, aka Jimmy Driftwood, was there every week drinking, smoking and playing his favorite songs. All the songs he played were covers, but he makes them his own with his guitar stumblings, his moments spent searching for words, and the rasp and the wheeze in his voice. Jimmy, 59 years old, died just a few months after this recording was made. | PHOTO of JIMMY DRIFTWOOD

IMELDA AND HER DANCING SHOES // 01 TRACK 01 // 02 TRACK 02 // 03 TRACK 03 // 04 TRACK 04 // 05 TRACK 05 |
Imelda And Her Dancing Shoes was a rock trio from West Oakland, California that existed for just a few months in 1996. Rick Weldon from Din Triptych wrote the songs, played guitar and sang. From the band Fibulator came Ken Holt on bass and Geoff Soule on drums. Imelda never performed and never recorded except for these practice tape recordings made at 705 Peralta Street, in April, 1996. The PA occasionally picked up cordless phone conversations, thus the woman's voice on Track #4. Rick & Geoff later played together in Wintermittens and The Supreme Reality. |

Fibulator was a no-wave art-rock band from West Oakland, California. They got started in the late 80s and called it quits in 1996. The first song here is a Pylon cover, recorded in 1994 during their "Unhammerlike" recording session. The second song is a 4-track recording previously released on a flexi-disc that came with the Get Off My Wagon 'zine. | ARTIST PROFILE

EASTERN GREEN // 01 EASTERN GREEN // 02 DO YOU FEEL ALL RIGHT // 03 I'M FIVE YEARS AHEAD OF MY TIME // 04 PINE TREE SHIPS |
Eastern Green was a rock band from San Diego, California. Led by singer John Agnew and bassist Ben Flores, who owned all the Pebbles compilations and were old enough to buy beer. Youngsters Jeff Wood and Geoff Soule rounded out the group on guitar and drums respectively. These recordings, slated to be released as an EP, were made in 1990 in Cabazon, CA (a tiny town near the dinosaurs on I-10). The band played mostly covers of obscure 60s bands. In this session they recorded "Do You Feel All Right" by The [Dutch] Outsiders and "Five Years Ahead" by The Third Bardo, as well as two originals. (Watch out for those purple monkeys!) |
